Hey everyone 👋
Welcome to this week’s ShutterCraft 101: Louisiana Wandering newsletter
I began this (past) Sunday like all the others - up early and drinking lots of coffee. I'm not (normally) a ‘sleep in’ person.
Sleeping late for me is like 5:30 AM.
Since I walk 6 days/week and already had this week’s days in and done, I was giving my legs a rest today.
Plus, I had an area in mind that I wanted to visit…
Other Travels and Trips - Future Planning
I tend to get ‘roped in’ on stuff sometimes.
A couple of months back I took an alternate route back home from a weekend fishing trip on Toledo Bend to drop off some parts and wound up passing through Lucky, Louisiana.
You can think of Lucky in terms of “Lucky you didn't miss it”.
Someone from a Facebook group I shared some pictures of this area in was kind enough to comment on my post so I'm sharing their findings here:
From Shreveport Times Oct 14, 1943 (newspapers.com)
As I was passing through, I noticed an old store or building of some kind in the later stages of decay at the intersection of State Highway 9 and State Highway 4.
On that particular day, I didn't have one of my camera's with me (some photographer, huh?), but made a point to make my way back there someday and document it through pictures.
This past Sunday (at the time of publication) was that day…
Poland’s General Store
Turns out, the name of this place was/is Poland’s General Store.
And that’s all I know about it.
Not much turns up on the internet through search for it (or Lucky for that matter other than a Wikipedia Page).
I enjoy making pictures of these old, forgotten, and abandoned places.
So I’m glad I made my way back over to Lucky and got these shots.
I hope you enjoy them.
One of the perks for supporting the ShutterCraft 101 newsletter with a paid subscription is a 20% discount on any of the digital downloads, prints, and high-resolution images from my Kofi Shop Page.
(All images were captured with a Canon Rebel T6s and a Sigma EX 17-50mm f/2.8 OS HSM DC lens. Edited in Lightroom Mobile with a free preset and other minor adjustments.)
Thank you for reading ShutterCraft 101: Louisiana Wandering and I hope you have a great rest of your week. 📷
Respectfully,
Josh Otwell
